The Wedding Day was Korea`s contribution to the 1957 Berlin Film Festival. It
later achieved a few American and European bookings, a rarity for Korean
films of the period. The story is predicated on an extreme case of mistaken
identity. Insisting upon governing the destinies of his offspring, a well-
meaning father marries off his son-in-law to a maidservant. Before the error
can be set aright, an abundance of comic complications parade before the
viewer. Despite its presumed limited appeal (the marital traditions of Korea
are not exactly common knowledge), Wedding Day scored a hit when it was
screened in Berlin.
